Air Root Pruning for Safe Public Trees
The use of air root pruning systems results in fibrous root systems for trees without ever provoking goose neck or circling roots. Rootmaker tm. designed a system to grow trees from seed of a good enough radial root system to develop a Certified Rootmaker Growers Program. Trees grown in regular pots develop circling roots that eventually girdle the tree and it dies. This can be very dangerous for people when street trees grow to a large size and fall. Trees classified in the Growers Program, grown from seed using the air root pruning trays and passing through the different stages the system is designed for, can grow to a reasonably large size for transplanting without forming any circling or strangling roots. Many growers in the US have joined the Program. My trees are elegant and I feel confident that when planted they will have more chances to resist wind than the usual pot-grown trees. There are many other benefits from this growing system which has been developed by Dr. Karl Whitcomb after thirty years of research on roots.
